MicrochippingMicrochipping is a method of identifying your pet should they ever become lost, it is also necessary for pet passports. It involves placing a small chip (about the size of a grain of rice) under the skin of your pet into their scruff. This chip can be scanned by anyone with the appropriate scanner (all vets, also many rehoming centres and animal charities) which provides a unique number that is registered to your name and address, so you can be contacted if your animal is found. For example whenever we have a stray animal brought in we can scan them after providing any necessary emergency treatment, if we find a chip only a quick phone-call is required to find the owners details and we are then able to let them know that their pet has been brought in. We reccommend that all cats and dogs are microchipped. If you wish to have your pet chipped you can make an appointment with one of our vets, or alternatively if they are in for surgery (e.g. routine neutering) you can request that we implant the chip during the anaesthetic. |
